HIV Breakthrough: Researchers at ‘Amsterdam University Medical Centre’ have claimed that HIV virus has been eliminated from infected cells through experiments in their lab. The word he uses to destroy the HIV virus is called Crispr. A special enzyme is used to cut the crisp DNA strand. This enzyme works like scissors do.
Virus is eliminated by using crisps
According to Dr. Elena Herrera-Carrillo, this technology works to eliminate the virus. According to the news published in ‘The Sun’, due to advances in medical technology, more than 95% of British people are at less risk of this disease. However, the condition can be fatal for those who are unaware of the disease or live in underdeveloped countries without access to quality health care.
Crispr gene-editing technology works like scissors but at the molecular level. According to a BBC report, it cuts the DNA so that the “bad” part can be removed or inactivated. Scientists hope that they will eventually be able to rid the body of the virus completely. But it highlighted that more work is needed to ensure safety and effectiveness. The drugs used to treat HIV patients stop the virus but do not eliminate it.
The University of Amsterdam presented a summary of their initial findings at a medical conference this week. He clearly underlined that his work remains only a proof of concept and will not lead to a cure for HIV in the near future.
Much more work will be needed to demonstrate the results of these cell tests throughout the body for future therapies. More development will be needed before it can have an impact on people living with HIV. Dr. James Dixon, associate professor of stem-cell and gene-therapy technologies at the University of Nottingham, was quoted by news agency BBC.
