 The first death from scrub typhus has been reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla city. Officials gave this information on Friday. They said that a 91-year-old man from Panthaghati area died during treatment of scrub typhus at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).

Symptoms of Scrub Typhus

Scrub typhus is an infectious disease caused by a mite bacterium called Orientia tsutsugamushi. It spreads to people through the bite of larval mites. Its initial symptoms appear on the body like rashes, fever, headache, body ache and other problems.

Hospital officials said that the person died on Wednesday during treatment after being found infected with scrub typhus on August 2. So far 44 cases of scrub typhus have been reported in IGMC Shimla. After a case of scrub typhus was reported in Hamirpur, the health officials of the district have advised people to keep their bodies covered while working in the fields and go to the nearest medical facility in case of fever.

This disease spreads in the whole body like this

This disease is caused by bacteria. It appears on the body 10 days after the flea bite. If a person is bitten by it, he will feel fever along with chills. Apart from this, there may be complaints of headache and body ache. There may also be severe pain in the muscles. 

In case of infection, there can be lumps in the hands, legs, neck and below the hips. Along with this, as the infection spreads, the thinking ability is also seriously affected. Rashes also start appearing on the body. If treatment is not done in time, then it can become serious and life-threatening.
