Ambikapur. Everyone would know about the Rashtrapati Bhavan located in Delhi, but do you know that there is a Rashtrapati Bhavan in Chhattisgarh too. People call it the second Rashtrapati Bhawan of the country. This building is located in Pandonagar of Surajpur district of Surguja division of the state. The first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad is still worshiped in this 71-year-old Rashtrapati Bhavan. His birth anniversary is celebrated every year on 3 December.
The second Rashtrapati Bhavan is neither a luxurious building nor security personnel are stationed here, rather it is a mud hut house with one room and a small courtyard. There is a thatch on the roof and there are some trees and plants around. We tell you the story behind why this building is called the second Rashtrapati Bhavan and when this building came into existence.
That’s why it is called Rashtrapati Bhavan
Actually, the first President of the country, Dr. Rajendra Prasad had come to Pandonagar in this small village of Surajpur on 22 November 1952. He had also rested after spending the night in this house of this village. At that time Maharaja Ramanuj Sharan Singh Dev of Surguja princely state was also with Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Ramanuj Sharan Singhdev also took a photo inside this building. This photo is still present inside this building. Since then this building came to be known as Rashtrapati Bhavan. Some elders of the village say that Dr. Rajendra Prasad had also planted two trees here, out of which one tree is still present.
The adopted son of the President lives here
The place where Dr. Rajendra Prasad stayed in a mud hut was surrounded by forests and mountains. People of tribal Pando tribe used to live in the forest. The people of Pando tribe used to lead a tribal life away from modern facilities in the forests. When Dr. Rajendra Prasad went there and saw the condition of Pando tribe, he adopted the people of this community. Since then this tribe has got the status of a specially protected tribe and hence it is also called the adopted son of the President.

The first President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born on 3 December 1884. To improve the condition of the Pando tribe, Rajendra Prasad gave them the status of a specially protected tribe, so the people of the Pando tribe still celebrate Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s birth anniversary on December 3 every year as a festival.
