Petha of Agra is liked not only across the country but also in foreign countries. But petha is also made in Shahjahanpur. People also like the petha made here very much. Govind Gupta, a resident of this place, prepares petha with his own hands, which the customers eat with great relish.

There is a shop named Shubh Diya Sweets located at Keruganj intersection of Shahjahanpur. All types of sweets are available here. But the petha found here is very special. Shop owner Govind Gupta told that he prepares about half a dozen types of petha which people like very much.

This is how flavored petha is prepared
Govind Gupta told that he first buys raw petha from farmers of Shahjahanpur and surrounding districts. If needed, he also gets petha from Nainital which is of very good quality. He takes care of purity while making petha. First of all he cuts the petha and washes it. Cut pieces according to size. The cut pieces are soaked in lime water for two hours. After that, wash it with clean water and put it in flavored syrup. This entire process takes about 6 to 7 hours. During this time he prepares about 1 quintal of petha.

Rate is decided according to flavor
Govind Gupta prepares petha of many flavors with his own hands. These include Paan Petha, Gulab Petha, Khas Petha, Angoori Petha and Kesar Petha. All these types of petha have different rates according to their flavour. Petha is sold here for Rs 200 per kg to Rs 240 per kg. The highest demand is for Gulab Petha and Kesar Petha.

Govind Gupta told that people might eat petha at many places but people like the petha here very much. Because he takes special care of quality. Whatever items are available there, he prepares them under his own supervision. Because of which people come from far and wide to buy Petha. There is a lot of demand for the petha made here during the festival of Holi. People from nearby districts also buy petha from here.
