Former National President of Janata Dal United and former Union Minister Sharad Yadav is no more. He died on Thursday night at Fortis Hospital in Gurugram. He was 75 years old. He was admitted to the hospital due to shortness of breath. His daughter informed about his death. His body was kept at his residence in Chhatarpur, Delhi, where people would be able to pay their last respects.

Sharad Yadav’s daughter Shubhashini Yadav informed about her father’s demise by tweeting. Shubhashini wrote in her tweet, ‘Papa is no more.’ According to sources, he was ill in his last days and was being treated at Fortis Hospital in Gurugram. With the death of Sharad Yadav, a wave of mourning has spread in the entire political world.

Funeral will be held in ancestral village in Madhya Pradesh

Sharad Yadav’s son-in-law Raj Kamal Rao said, he had a cardiac arrest, we took him to the hospital. After reaching there, the doctors declared him brought dead. He had kidney problems and was on dialysis. His body will be taken to his native village in Madhya Pradesh where the last rites will be performed.

Fortis Hospital issued a statement

Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon issued a statement saying, Sharad Yadav was brought to the emergency at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon in an unconscious state. On examination, there was no movement in his body and blood pressure was also not measurable.

CPR was done on him under ACLS protocol. Despite all efforts, he could not be brought back to normal and was declared brought dead at 10.19 pm. We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family.

Sharad Yadav had also been the national president of JDU. His name was counted among the big socialist leaders of the country. According to his close friends, Sharad Yadav’s political stature was so high that when he spoke, the whole country used to listen. Sharad Yadav was born on 1 July 1947 in a farming family in Bandai village of Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh. Born in a farmer’s house, Sharad was very quick in reading and writing. Sharad Yadav, who made a mark in national politics from student politics, had also achieved a big position in Bihar politics. Sharad Yadav had hoisted his political flag in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and then Bihar. He had left JDU after the dispute with Nitish Kumar. He had been MP many times from Madhepura seat of Bihar.

He was greatly inspired by the thoughts of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. Taking inspiration from him, Sharad Yadav took part in many movements. Not only this, he also went to jail in 1969-70, 1972 and 1975 under MISA. Sharad Yadav entered active politics in the year 1974, when he became a Member of Parliament for the first time from the Jabalpur Lok Sabha seat. He reached the Lok Sabha a total of seven times by being elected from UP, MP and Bihar. His political stature can be gauged from the fact that he was also a Union Minister in several governments.

Sharad Yadav started his own party Loktantrik Janata Dal. In March 2020, he merged with Lalu Yadav’s organization RJD. He said that was the first step towards a united opposition.
