He has said that there was a time when he was called fat in the industry. The actress has also said that she was about to do the superhit song Chhaiya Chhaiya from Dil Se, but Malaika Arora was cast because she was fat.
In an interview given to Times of India, when Shilpa was asked how she left a song like Chaiyya Chaiyya, the actress said, ‘Who would want such a chance to be missed. The actress said- Farah Khan had come to me with the offer of this song. But later it came to know that I was too fat for this, so Malaiko got this song.
Shilpa also told that when she was working, her weight did not come in the way of her work. But if I want to debut now, I might not get work. He says that now the competition has increased so much that no one wants to give second chance to anyone.
The actress also told that whatever work she has done till now, she has had the support of many people and it would be wrong to name any one. Shilpa said, ‘I became what I became with the support of the entire industry, including all my co-actors, producers and technicians.’
He also told an incident while remembering. Shilpa Shirodkar said, ‘Anil Kapoor went to Hyderabad for the shooting of a Telugu film and he also took my photo album with him to show it to the producer. Later I got that film too.
Shilpa became emotional after taking the name of Mithun Chakraborty. He says that he is in this industry only because of Mithun Da. When Sutan Ki Beti and Junglee got out of my hands, people started calling me Jinx. It was Mithun da who got me a role in corruption and again my career got back on track.
