India vs Bangladesh Test Series: India defeated Bangladesh in the second Test and captured the series 2–0. In the second match at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium Mirpur Dhaka, Team India defeated the hosts by 3 wickets. R Ashwin played an important role in helping India win this match. He snatched victory from the jaws of Bangladesh by playing an unbeaten inning of 42 runs at the last moment. He was awarded the title of Player of the Match. Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a century in the first match, flopped in the Mirpur Test. Shreyas Iyer did a great batting in the second match. By the way, Shreyas had also contributed in the first match. Despite this, the Player of the Series award was given to Cheteshwar Pujara. This thing could not be digested by the cricket fans.
Shreyas not Pujara
Some cricket fans are upset with Cheteshwar Pujara being given the Player of the Series award. Sreejit Panicker tweeted, Shreyay Iyer should have got the Player of the Series award, not Pujara. He played only three innings in this series which were important. 86 runs in Chittagong, 87 runs in Mirpur Test and 29 not out. Pujara’s contribution in the second Test is negligible.
A fan named Subhayan Chakraborty wrote, this series was very good for Pujara. He must have been happy with his Player of the Series award. But my choice would have been Shreyas Iyer. Because he scored runs in difficult conditions. He batted brilliantly in the first test, while he contributed well in both the innings of the second test.
Who chooses for the award
According to the rules, the player of the match and player of the series awards are selected by the commentary panel. Apart from this, advice is taken from the cricket veterans of both the teams. There is no criticism about this award, so advice is taken from the members of both the countries present in the panel. ICC members are also included in the panel. On the other hand, if we talk about Shreyas Iyer, he played an innings less than Pujara and scored 202 runs with an average of more than 100. While Pujara scored 222 runs in 4 innings, his average was 74.
