The same thing happened with a person when, while seeking insurance claim from him, he showed that his leg was damaged in an accident. But the situation was such that his leg got so bad that he had to lose both his legs and at the same time he was also exposed and now he is facing a case of fraud.
The name of this person from Taiwan is said to be Chang. Chang, 24, was admitted to a hospital in Taipei last year with serious injuries in what he said was an accident involving his scooter. But now he, along with his colleagues, has been accused of damaging his own leg so that he can get the insurance money.
According to Newsweek’s report, Chang kept his feet in dry ice for more than 10 hours to make the lower parts of his feet look injured. If this claim had been proven true, Chang could have received approximately Rs 10 crore 53 lakh. But neither did he get the money, instead he lost his legs even more.

Chang had emergency surgery in February last year. According to the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office, both of his legs had to be amputated below the knees because his legs had developed bone necrosis and sepsis after being kept cold for hours in dry ice. After this, Chang and his partner Liao made insurance claims, out of which only one claim of Rs 5 lakh 26 thousand was successful, but the remaining eight claims were rejected.
The insurance company raised suspicions to the police and Chang and Liao were investigated for fraud. It was found that Chang had filled a plastic bucket with dry ice and sat down with his feet in it. After which he underwent an operation but his legs were so damaged that they had to be amputated.
Police say that Chang had got insurance done a few days ago, which increased the suspicion on him, but this revealed the real extent of the injuries. The climate of Taiwan is such that incidents like freezing of feet due to icy cold do not happen there. It was found in the photographs that the wounds on both the legs were similar, which is not seen even in frostbite. It also became clear that Chang was not wearing socks or shoes at the time of the alleged accident.
