Sim Card Swapping: In this era of technology, cyber frauds are also increasing rapidly. In view of the continuously increasing cases of cyber fraud, many steps are being taken by the government. SIM swapping is also one such fraud, due to which cyber thugs are making many people their victims. Now, to deal with this fraud, a new guideline is being brought by the Central Government, after which the rules for porting SIM cards will change.
What is the new rule of porting?
A new rule has been brought by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to prevent SIM card swapping fraud, this rule will be implemented across the country from July 1, 2024. According to this new rule, if you have swapped the SIM immediately, you will not be able to port it immediately. This means that after getting a new SIM or replacing it, it cannot be ported immediately, for this one will have to wait for seven days. TRAI says that this will reduce cyber frauds.
What is SIM swapping?
SIM swapping simply means changing the SIM, whenever the SIM does not work or the phone is lost, SIM swapping takes place. In such a situation, we take a new SIM in place of the old SIM, but the number remains the same. For some time now, cyber thugs have been taking advantage of this system and defrauding people. For this, they call the SIM company and assure that the number is theirs, for this they use the details of your Aadhar card. After this, your SIM is switched off and a new SIM is activated immediately and then all the OTPs go to the same number. By the time you realize, the bank account is empty.
