Singapore Insects Update : In India, if someone finds a worm in their food, it becomes a big issue, but there is a country where eating insects has been allowed recently. Actually, people of Singapore will now be able to eat insects too, because the administration has allowed 16 types of insects to be included in the food here. These include crickets, grasshoppers, grubs, bees, and insects born in grains. According to a Reuters report, a restaurant selling seafood in Singapore has even started serving these insects. The restaurant operator is serving crickets with fish curry and insects with tofu. At the same time, toppings of insects are also being added to fried rice. More than 30 such dishes have been included in the restaurant menu, in which insects are being added. According to the Food Authority Department, it is currently being served as a sample. Singapore’s food security expert Paul Teng said that most insects have a very high amount of protein. It will be a big challenge to include these in people’s everyday diet.
The demand was rising for quite some time
Actually, eating insects was not allowed in Singapore due to hygiene and health reasons. However, insects have already been made street food in South-East Asian countries. Now Singapore’s food policy has been changed. According to the new order, insects will be raised under the supervision of experts only, they will not be brought from the wild environment. During care, they cannot be given spoiled food.
Hundreds of species of insects are found in India
The species of insects are different in different countries. According to a report by The Guardian, more than 2,000 species of insects are eaten in 128 countries around the world. These insects are mostly found in Asian, African countries and Mexico. Hundreds of species of insects are also eaten in Thailand, India and China. Now this has been allowed in Singapore as well.
