Siya Movie Review: Producer-turned-director Manish Mundra’s film ‘Siya’ is releasing in theaters on 16 September. Manish has also written this film of Mundra’s production house Drishyam Films. Manish has earlier produced films like ‘Masaan’, ‘Aankhon Dekhi’ and ‘Newton’. But through ‘Siya’ as a director, he is putting his vision on the screen for the first time. Pooja Pandey and Vineet Kumar Singh are seen in ‘Siya’. While Pooja is on screen for the first time, Vineet has previously appeared in films like ‘Mukkabaaz’, ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ and web series like ‘Rangbaaz’. Today, when there are flop films, this question is being raised again and again whether Hindi cinema has lack of good content..? Are we keeping the stories behind and the stars ahead..? In such a situation, ‘Siya’ alone has emerged as the answer to many of these questions. Let me tell you why I said this…
Siya is the story of 17-year-old girl Sita Singh, who is gang-raped. Not just one, that too for several days. Sita, who lives in Devganj, suddenly disappears from her house. In such a situation, Mahendra (Vineet Kumar Singh), who knows Sita’s family, and Sita’s poor parents go to the police station to file an FIR for her disappearance, but the upper caste SHO does not consider their complaint worth paying attention to. But when the local news paper publishes the news of the loss of this girl in its paper, then on the behest of a politician, the police starts searching for her.
Producer Manish Mundra has made ‘Siya’ for the first time taking command of the direction and for his first film he has chosen a serious and very serious subject like rape. Manish has to be praised that he has put a beautiful film on the screen in his very first attempt at direction. ,The manner in which the story of ‘Siya’ brings out the horrors of a crime like rape on the screen will leave you restless. Often the cinema screen is called ‘Rupahla’, but there is nothing ‘Rupahla’ in Manish Mundra’s film. Rather, such black ink of society, system and politics will be seen scattered all over the screen that you will be filled with a strange restlessness. Now it can also be called the negative aspect of this film that this film does not bring anything silver, elegant or full of hope to the screen. If you go to the cinema hall with the thought ‘everything goes well in the end, and if not well, then the picture is yet to come my friend…’ then this film is not for you.
In ‘Siya’, neither any loud background music has been given nor the running angles of some cameras to increase or show the horrors of any situation or scene. Amazing thing is that in this film showing the story of ‘rape’, not a single scene related to it was shown on the screen. But every emotion and pain that comes with rape, like pain, restlessness, horror, mental agony, has been put on the screen. In the background of each scene, everything from the sound of buffalo chained around their necks to the sound of peacocks, everything will be heard gradually so that you can cheat that you are in the same environment, but just watch it and get distracted Are there, but can’t do anything.
In fact, today the scale of success of films is being decided on the basis of its ‘collection’. But ‘Siya’ starring Pooja Pandey and Vineet Kumar Singh is that film, which will work to take cinema a step further. Pooja Pandey is appearing on screen as an actress for the first time, but the beauty with which she has brought this character on screen is commendable. Even after being the victim of this heinous crime, when Siya demands ‘justice’, Pooja’s success as an actress can be clearly seen on the screen. On the other hand, in the character of Mahendra, Vineet Kumar Singh is seen as such a character, who can only be seen. Vineet’s character is a lawyer working in Rotary, who stands shoulder to shoulder in the fight of ‘we want justice’ against this wrong, but neither does he shout anywhere, nor does he have any intention of bringing revolution. That’s just comfortable. It is as simple as Mahendra, a resident of Devganj, can be. 4 stars to this film from my side.
