Expansion
City residents will have to wait now to visit the Sky Walk built at a cost of Rs 11 crore in Bareilly. The reason is that the Smart City Limited administration has got it ready while making tall claims, but the work of railing is still pending. The design of the railing will be decided only after consultation with the company operating it. After that, railings will be installed and then people will be able to move on it. When will this happen? No one has a clear answer to this.
This Sky Walk project has been a victim of similar delays since the beginning. In the Smart City plan, the proposal to build it at Ayub Khan intersection was from February 2021, but after getting the approval, the work could start in April 2022. It was expected that the work would be completed by January 6, 2024, but it did not happen. After this the officers claimed that the work would be completed by January 31, but it is still incomplete.
Mayor’s instructions ineffective
During the inspection recently, Mayor Umesh Gautam had given instructions to speed up the construction and install railings, but it remained ineffective and till now the work is incomplete. How will the railing look and when will it last? This is not finalized and the rest of the sky walk is ready. Due to lack of railing, people are also being stopped from climbing. Some finishing work is also being done. The design of the railing has not been finalized yet.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Sunil Kumar Yadav said that railing has to be installed, but right now the policy and rules for its operation are being decided. Operation is to be handed over to a private firm. Discussions are being held on whether the railing should be installed after the firm is selected or before.
