In an interview with PTI, Sonali Bendre had revealed that she was ready to leave the film industry if she had not performed well in the song Humma Humma from Mani Ratnam’s 1995 film ‘Bombay’.
Sonali had told that at that time, she had done only five films and was often criticized by choreographers for her dance moves. She got success after dancing on the hit song Humma Humma with Prabhu Deva’s brother Raju Sundaram.
Sonali told that at that time, people believed that if you do not know dance then you cannot become a lead actress.
Speaking to PTI, Sonali said, “I am not a trend dancer. When I came into films, I was reprimanded by choreographers for my dance. I was told ‘Badi heroine banne chali hai, dance nahi aata’ ‘So, if you can’t dance, you can’t become a heroine, so I started taking training in ‘Bollywood dancing’ before and after the shooting.”
Sonali further adds, “It was like, ‘Let’s do this’ This is with Prabhu Deva because if I can do this, I have the right to be here and if I can’t do this, then pack my bags. Do it and go. At that time, it was like, ‘(At least) my team will earn its day.’
The actress recently revealed that she had to face body shaming in the initial stages of her career. Talking to Hotterfly, she said, “When I came into the industry, heroines were not so thin. Every producer told me that Was trying to get fat.”
She also said that the producers used to tell her, “Eat, eat, you are too thin.” Sonali further added, “They wanted curves. At that time, they wanted women who were curvy and had curly hair. And I had straight I had black hair and was thin.”
