In the case of rape of a 14-year-old minor girl in Sonbhadra district five and a half years ago, the court of Additional Sessions Judge-Special Judge POCSO Act Amit Veer Singh has sentenced the culprit to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. While hearing the case on Wednesday, a fine of Rs 53 thousand has also been imposed. Out of the fine amount, Rs 42 thousand will be given to the victim.
This is the whole matter
According to the prosecution, the victim’s father, a resident of a village in Myorpur police station area, had filed a complaint in Myorpur police station alleging rape of his daughter. The allegation was that Ishwar Prasad Kharwar, a resident of Chapki in Babhani, had been raping his daughter (14) for a year, due to which she became pregnant. He made her abort by giving her medicine. He threatened the daughter with dire consequences. On 11 December 2019, the police registered a case and investigated the matter.
After investigation, the then police station in-charge of Myorpur Ramesh Chandra had filed a charge sheet in the court under rape and POCSO Act. During the hearing of the case, after listening to the arguments of the lawyers of both the sides, the statements of the witnesses and examining the file, the court sentenced the guilty Ishwar Prasad Kharwar to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 53 thousand rupees.
If the fine is not paid, an additional six months of imprisonment will have to be served. Out of the fine amount, Rs 42,000 will be given to the victim. Government lawyers Dinesh Kumar Agrahari, Satya Prakash Tripathi and Neeraj Kumar Singh argued on behalf of the prosecution.
