Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease that specifically damages nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord (motor neurons). This disease is so dangerous that if the treatment is not received on time, the life of the victim can also be lost. The most common form of SMA is caused by a mutated or missing gene. This is known as Survival Motor Neuron Gene 1 (SMN1). It usually works for the production of essential proteins for motor neurons.
