The soil of Aligarh has always been fertile in the Ram Mandir movement. The voice raised from here for the temple has reached every corner of the country. Therefore, the enthusiasm of the kar sevaks here during the Ram Mandir movement in the 1990s was palpable. Karsevaks did not shy away from sacrificing their lives for the Ram temple. Yogiraj Hitaishi Baba, resident of Atalpur village of Lodha area, also jumped into the temple movement.
He narrowly escaped the bullet fired on the Saryu river bridge in Ayodhya. Many kar sevaks had jumped into Saryu in front of him. Yogiraj Hitaishi Baba says that when we remember that time, all the pictures appear before our eyes. Come, let us hear the story of Ram Mandir movement from him in his own words…
I came to Aligarh in 1982. At that time the voice for Ram temple had started being raised. The temple movement started under the leadership of Ashok Singhal, the international president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. He called for the Sant Samaj. I felt that I should also contribute for the temple of Lord Ram. The work of a saint is not just renunciation and sadhana, it is also the work of Rama. Therefore, in 1990, I along with some saints also went to Ayodhya for Kar Seva. When I reached Kanpur by train, there was strict police security. There was checking in the trains going towards Ayodhya, so from there I reached Prayagraj (Allahabad at that time) directly. Buses going from Prayagraj to Ayodhya were stopped. There was no means. Therefore, we started towards Ayodhya in small vehicles. With the help of tractors and motorcycles at various places, we moved towards Ayodhya. Had to walk at some places.
