Sachchidanand / Patna. Often you would have seen men running street food stalls, women, children, but there is such a stall in Patna where you will see Sonali belonging to the LGBTQ+ community.
Sonali has been setting up a gram-bhaji stall for the last 20 years at Gate No. 1 of Paras Hospital in the capital. People like their chana-bhaji so much that there is always a crowd. People come from far and wide to taste the gram-bhaji made by Sonali’s hands. It is so crowded that there is no place to stand.
Full plate for Rs 20
Sonali tells that earlier her father used to run this stall. But due to ill health of his father, he took over the responsibility. For the last 20 years, she has been feeding people gram-bhaji. She says that initially people used to taunt her for being from the LGBTQ+ community. But ignoring these taunts and flirting, she continued with her shopkeeping. Now people praise. Like men and women, Sonali is also living a life of dignity. She serves a full plate for Rs 20 and a half plate of chana-bhaji for Rs 10.
Sonali is a graduate
Sonali, who sells chana-bhaji, is a graduate of AN College, the only A+ grade in Bihar. Sonali tells that she had to face many difficulties to reach here. Being from the LGBTQ community, he was not getting admission in English medium school. But got admission after lakhs of requests and falling at the feet of the principal. Sonali has also topped in studies. After graduating from AN College, he made his father’s gram-vegetable shop business his business. Today, she is eating the bread of respect in the society and at the same time, she is running the family.
