After the Covid virus, once again there is a lot of discussion about a new bacteria. Actually, Japan is battling a rare disease. This disease has been named Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS). According to the information, the cause of this disease is a flesh-eating bacteria. Today we will tell you how dangerous STSS is and what is its effect in India.

What are these bacteria?

The bacteria that is causing Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS) in Japan has been known for a long time. This bacteria is called Streptococcus. Let us tell you that it has two variants or types. The first is Group-A Streptococcus and the second is Group-B Streptococcus. When we have problems like cold, cough, fever or sore throat, then Group-A Streptococcus is reported in it.

Sometimes it gets cured on its own, sometimes antibiotics have to be taken. On the other hand, there is group-B streptococcus, it is not considered harmful. However, some strains of group-A streptococcus sometimes become very dangerous. In this case, they are called invasive group-A streptococcus. The condition it causes is called streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. Currently, this disease is spreading only in Japan.

Flesh-eating bacteria?

Does Group-A Streptococcus bacteria really eat human flesh? According to information, this bacteria is called flesh-eating. However, it does not eat flesh directly, but kills human tissue. That is why it is called Flesh-Eating. When Group-A Streptococcus (GAS) kills tissue, that condition is called necrotizing fasciitis.

How does this bacteria spread?

Group-A Streptococcus bacteria spread rapidly in people who have a wound or an open wound. After infection, this bacteria releases a type of toxin in the wound. When the toxin is released, it starts destroying muscles, blood vessels and nerves. This toxin is so dangerous that the wounded or infected area starts rotting in a way.

The toxin released due to group-A streptococcus goes deep and enters the blood circulation. Then a condition of toxic syndrome arises. Which is called streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. Due to lack of proper treatment, death can be lost within 48 hours.

How much danger is there in India?

According to information, in India, children between 5 and 15 years of age are usually affected by group-A streptococcus. However, here it is not so serious that it can take the form of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. No case of this bacteria has been reported in India so far.
