Too much sugar increases depression – study
A study by a research team at Surrey University states that people who eat more sweets are more likely to suffer from serious diseases such as increased levels of depression. Consuming too much sugar increases the risk of depression. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to consume less sweets. In this study published in Translational Medicine, it has been said that people who eat more sweets are at risk of diabetes, depression, stroke etc.

During the study people were divided into three groups. Omnivores (who eat both vegetables and meat), Health Conscious who eat more vegetables and fruits. The third group included those who ate more sweets. In the study, all three groups were given food of their preference. In such a situation, people with a sweet tooth i.e. people who like more sweets were seen to be more vulnerable to depression. People belonging to the sweet tooth group were in the group that consumed more sweets and sweet drinks.

Consuming too much sweet weakens metabolism
The researcher says that the group which consumed more sweets than the rest of the group had a worse metabolic rate. Along with this, people of this group were seen suffering from increased blood sugar level in the body, increased swelling in the body, digestive problems as well as mental problems.

Along with metabolic problems, mental health conditions were also seen in these people. After the study, it was found that the risk of depression in people who consumed more sweets was 31 percent higher than the rest of the group. In such a situation, it has been suggested in the study that consuming vegetables and fruits as compared to eating too much sweets improves metabolic rate as well as mental health.
