Lucknow: The unique cigarette dargah has been built near Lucknow’s Musabagh Palace. A large number of people come here to make wishes. Don’t ask what all people don’t offer to make wishes. What is the Cigarette Dargah of Lucknow?
Historian Dr. Ravi Bhatt has written about this dargah Local 18 Told. This is the story of Captain Frederick Wells, who was a captain in the British army. On 21 March 1858, a war took place between the British and the freedom fighters of Awadh in Musa Bagh. The British soldiers won this war, but Captain Wells died. Then a grave of Captain Wells was built.
Why are cigarettes offered?
Wells was very fond of cigarettes. This is the reason why people offer cigarettes at his dargah. The dargah’s servant Mishrilal told that apart from cigarettes, live chicken, cooked chicken, wine, biscuits and bread along with flowers and sweets are also offered here. On occasions like New Year and Christmas, people come here from far and wide. Every Thursday so many people come to this dargah that there is no place to even put a foot.
It is believed that problems go away
It is believed that offering cigarettes here removes all troubles. That is why some people call it Cigarette Baba’s Dargah. This shrine is also known as Gora Baba and Captain Shah Baba. People from not only Lucknow but many districts of Uttar Pradesh come here to offer cigarettes. Women can also go here along with men.
Lovers pray for marriage
This dargah is also crowded with lovers. It is said that if you are not getting married, you can come here and offer a cigarette. By doing this, the wedding music starts playing within a short time. People also come here to remove bitterness from their relationships.
