The people of Utraula Assembly have the honor of sending Sucheta Kripalani, the first woman Chief Minister of independent India, to the Parliament. Coincidentally, after becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1963, Sucheta Kripalani chose to contest the Gonda parliamentary seat in the 1967 Lok Sabha elections. He also got victory. Not only this, she also retired from politics while being the MP of Gonda.

Sucheta Kripalani, who was active in the freedom movement, founded the All India Mahila Congress in the year 1940. Joined the Quit India Movement in 1942 and remained in jail for a year. In 1946 she was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly and in 1949 a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly.

After independence, when JB Kripalani separated from Jawaharlal Nehru and formed the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party, in 1952 she became the MP of New Delhi from the Kisan Mazdoor Party. After a few days, she again returned to Congress and in 1957 again became the Delhi Parliament from Congress.

She was a Minister of State in the Jawaharlal Nehru government. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru suddenly sent Sucheta Kripalani to UP, she was elected MLA from Mendhwal assembly seat of Basti district. She was the Chief Minister of the state from 1963-1967. Meanwhile, in 1967, Sucheta again reached Parliament by winning the elections from Gonda parliamentary seat. Meanwhile, he retired from politics in 1971.

Gonda was made VVIP seat

In 1967, KDR Pandey of Swatantra Party had given a tough fight to Sucheta Kripalani of Congress from Gonda parliamentary seat. In the election, Sucheta got 1 lakh 4 thousand 904 votes, while KDR Pandey got 93 thousand 243 votes. Then Gonda seat was included among the VVIP seats.
