Sunil Gavaskar on Asia Cup 2023: Fast bowlers have been given more importance than spinners in the Indian team for Asia Cup 2023. Ever since the announcement of the squad, there has been talk of why star spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin were not given a chance in the team. Apart from this, some changes were seen in the team. Now on this debate, former Indian veteran Sunil Gavaskar appealed to the fans.
Gavaskar reacts to India’s spin department on ‘Aaj Tak’. Only Kuldeep Yadav has been selected as the main spinner in the Indian team for the Asia Cup. Apart from this, Jadeja and Akshar will play as all-rounders and they will support Kuldeep in the spin department.
On the other hand, regarding a question about Ashwin, veteran Gavaskar said, “Yes, there are some players who would consider themselves unlucky. But the team has been selected. So don’t think about Ashwin. Stop creating controversy. Now this is our team. If you don’t like it, don’t watch the match but stop saying that he should be selected or someone else should be. This is the wrong mindset.”
Gavaskar further made it clear without naming any player that no player can claim that injustice has been done to anyone. Gavaskar said, “Yes, absolutely (this team can win the World Cup). Which would you choose? I don’t think any player can claim that injustice has been done to him. Players with experience and form have been selected in the 17-member Asia Cup squad.
Apart from this, veteran Gavaskar backed KL Rahul. He said, “Let’s see how his injury is. Winning the Asia Cup is important but the goal is the World Cup. So if the team management wants KL Rahul in the World Cup squad, I think it is fair that they have selected him for the Asia Cup despite a minor injury.”
He further said, “Where India is concerned, there are still 11 days left. This is enough time to recover from the injury. Then there are more matches till the middle of September. I think it is okay to give KL Rahul a chance because he has done well for India, give him a chance to recover.
