‘Tabbar’ Web Series REVIEW: ‘Tabbar’ is a master class in acting

Husband, wife and children means ‘Tabber’ in Punjabi. This 8 episode web series released on Sony Liv should be seen as a master class of excellent acting. Starring experienced and well-versed actors in this web series, Pawan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak, Ranvir Shorey along with lesser experienced Gagan Arora, Sahil Mehta and Paramveer Cheema power this masterpiece by writer Harman Wadala and director Ajit Pal Singh. given form? This is such a web series, which is not dependent on time and period, but through the story, each thread has been woven so finely that some bizarre mistakes are also hidden. This presentation of Sony Liv in the series of good web series is as beautiful as ‘Maharani’.

Commercial farming has flourished in Punjab due to the hard work of intelligent farmers. After years of struggle, a system has been formed in Punjab’s agriculture. In the process of agriculture, due to machines and laborers of Bihar-Uttar Pradesh, there is earning in Ifrat. Some politics, some cunning tricks of the neighboring country and to a large extent the money accumulated by fathers and grandfathers, have been pushing the boys of Punjab into the pit of drugs. Years have passed, but these stories are still going on. Crimes happen because of this addiction and now middle class youths are also addicted to charas, ganja, heroin, cocaine and many other types of drugs. Tabbar is the story of the troubles faced by a normal family due to a drug smuggling case. Is the desire to live a good life the real reason for crime?

Tubber is a wonderful piece of work. To what extent can a law-abiding father break the law for the sake of his children, his family? Onkar Singh (Pawan Malhotra), who runs a grocery store, tries to live a life of poverty with his wife Sargun (Supriya Pathak) and his two sons Happy (Gagan Arora) and Tegi (Sahil Mehta). Maheep Sodhi (Rachit Behl), the younger brother of local leader Ajit Sodhi (Ranveer Shorey) threatens to come to his house due to a change of bag in the train and in the scuffle, Maheep gets shot and dies. In the story that follows, Omkar has to commit one crime after another to save his family from the clutches of the police and eventually ends up poisoning his wife as well.

Actor Harman Wadala has created a dark story keeping in mind the social fabric of Jalandhar (Punjab). With the help of his friend actor Sandeep Jain and a mysterious Mr. Roy, he has shaped it into a tight script. Every scene of the series has been composed very carefully. The audience has not been given the scope to take their eyes off even for a moment. There is a tension throughout. Every time it seems that now maybe this case will open and the family will be disintegrated, but there is a new twist in the story and again the audience is forced to think. Whether Omkar’s neighbor Mahajan (Babla Kochhar), or Omkar’s nephew Lucky (Paramveer Singh Cheema) or Ajit Sodhi’s right hand Multan (Ali), each in their own way wants to expose Omkar and his family or eliminate them. Want to. The writers team has to be praised that Omkar saves them every time by using his mind.

Pawan Malhotra has played a Sardar so many times in the last few years that it is hard to believe that he is not a Sardar. Pawan is such an actor watching whom is like attending an acting school. He was in the role of Tiger Memon in Black Friday. It seemed that maybe Tiger Memon would be like this. Sometimes a streetwalker, sometimes a goon, sometimes a sports coach, sometimes an inspector, Pawan pulls off every role in himself. He has also played the character of Onkar Singh very well. What a father goes through to save his family and yet never shows any sense of guilt on his face. Wind is amazing. His eyes speak. Anger, frustration, smile, and don’t know how many other emotions are visible on the face with full intensity. In the role of his wife, Supriya Pathak has played a pair like his wife in acting. Supriya sometimes becomes the laughingstock of Khichdi and sometimes the dreaded Dhankor Ba in Ramlila. In each of her characters, Supriya has spread the whole rainbow of acting. In this web series in the role of Sargun, Supriya, who lost her mental balance after seeing her heavy body, sweet food addiction, insulin injections and seeing her husband commit murders one after the other in front of her eyes, is an art form. It will be easy to understand the depth of Ranvir Shorey’s role is small, but he still manages to do wonders with his eyes. Paramveer Singh Cheema impresses in the role of a good and honest Inspector Lucky.

There are some flaws in the script as well. Some characters are redundant too. Despite all this, the actors chosen for each character are excellent. Casting is done by Mukesh Chhabra and he is considered the champion of casting in this type of dark and thriller drama. There was no possibility to take care of the time line in the script. Everything gets done very easily. The first murder is done by mistake but all subsequent murders are done with planning. No preparation was done for all this and suddenly the circumstances become favorable for Omkar. He also has poison which is available in blister packs like medicine and poison can be mixed with water. Happy i.e. Gagan gets a leg injury, which does not heal in the whole series, but he walks, drives a scooter, drives a car, and while riding a motorcycle, even snatches a bag from the girl’s shoulder. Due to some such incidents beyond logic, the trust in the story starts decreasing, but Pawan and Supriya make them cross the Vaitarani with their acting. The ending of the story is poignant.

Just like in the movie Drishyam, Ajay Devgan fools the police by adopting all the tricks for his family, the basic story is the same in Tabbar, just Omkar Singh’s character goes on killing the opponents of his family without any sympathy and sympathy. Tabber starts getting scared of Omkar. The music of the web series is by Sneha Khanwalkar. For the MTV show “Sound Tripping”, Sneha traveled to the towns of Punjab and gained a great understanding of the music there. The song written by Baba Farid, a Muslim saint of Pakistan who is considered to be the father of Punjabi language literature, the words of Gurudwara and kirtan have been used very beautifully. Another amazing artist behind the camera is Arun Kumar Pandey. All the shots are kept very tight. The camera is placed close to the faces and due to this you can read the tension on the faces and it also creates tension on your mind. Arun’s camera work has to be appreciated because in every frame you will see only the essentials. Parikshit Jha’s editing is very good but due to the cinematic liberty taken in the story, such scenes have to be kept which have no reason to trust.

It may not be possible for Tubber to spend 5 hours together but watch it piece by piece. In every episode there is a new kind of tension, a new adventure and a new thrill. On the lines of “Grahan” released on Hotstar, Sony Liv’s “Tabber” is the story of Sardar’s house.
