Thangalaan Hindi Movie Review: The story of Vikram’s ‘Thangalan’ is mind blowing

Film director Pa. Ranjith is very famous in the South film industry. This time he has tried to show something different to the audience through ‘Thangalan’. However, his film was released in theaters on 15 August 2024 in Tamil language and the film was also successful in performing well at the box office. Now it has been released in Hindi language on 6 September. The film stars veteran actor Vikram in the lead role and along with him Parvati Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Daniel Caltagirone are also in important roles. So let us tell you how the film ‘Thangalan’ is.

First of all, let’s talk about the story of the film. It is claimed that this story is inspired by the real story of Kolar Gold Field (KGF). The story begins in 1850, where a team of Britishers in the British Raj is looking for gold mines. These were the mines from which Tipu Sultan and Chola kings used to extract gold. Thangallan (Vikram) lives with his wife Gangamma (Parvathy Thiruvothu) and their children in Veppur village in North Arcot. As the village head and a landlord, he is highly respected unlike his fellow villagers, who are bonded laborers on the landlord’s land.

Thangallan often tells bedtime stories to his children, and one night he tells his children the story of his great-grandfather. He tells that Thangallan’s great-grandfather Kadyan was an expert in extracting gold from the sand of the Ponnar river. When he was extracting gold from the river with his companions, the king of that place noticed him and he ordered his soldiers to arrest him, but this could not happen because Kadyan was a very powerful man. He killed all the soldiers. Meanwhile, one of them noticed the rocks of gold and told the king.

However, Kadyan warns the king not to even try to go near the rocks because the golden rocks are protected by Aarti (Malavika Mohanan), a woman from the Nagar tribe, who is a witch and also protects the dense forests. But the king does not listen to Kadyan and orders his soldiers to move towards the golden rocks. As soon as the soldiers move towards the rocks, a group of snakes attack them.

Here Kadyan saves the king from the snakes and single-handedly confronts Aarti and holds her captive. The king is very impressed by her, but as soon as the king picks up some stones from the golden rocks, they turn into dust. Now you must be thinking that this is the story of Thangalan’s great grandfather, so what is Thangalan’s role in it? And what is his story? To know all this, you will have to go to the theatre and watch the entire film. The story of the film is very different, which will appeal to the audience.

At the same time, there are some shortcomings in the film. The pace of the film slows down a lot in the first half, which will make you feel a bit bored. On the other hand, you will enjoy the second part a lot. By the way, if the makers wanted, they could have finished it in 2 hours. In almost all the good South films, good songs were also made for the Hindi audience, you will find that shortcoming in this film. It seems that the songs of the film have been dubbed verbatim. If the producers wanted, they could have worked on it, but they did not consider it appropriate to give importance to it.

If we talk about acting, Vikram, Parvati Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone and all other stars have done justice to their characters. There is no lack in acting in anyone. Pa. Ranjit’s direction is also great. The scenes of the film have been shot in such a way that you will like it a lot. Overall, you can watch this film once with your entire family in Hindi. 3 stars for the film from my side.
