This story is about George Parrott, who was also known as Big Nose George. He was a notorious robber in America’s Wild West in the 19th century. Its job was to rob the wagons and coaches of the trains passing through the routes. This was specifically to loot the money being taken to pay salaries to the people. But later he was killed and his skin was used to make shoes and even a part of his skull was used as an ashtray for years.

Big Nose George and his men fled to Rattlesnake Pass in the Elk Mountains, where they killed a Wyoming deputy sheriff and private detective in a gunfight. After this, the reward of ten thousand dollars placed on George was doubled. The gang was caught after two years and brought to Rollins, where the court sentenced them to death. But ten days before his execution, George made an unsuccessful attempt to escape.

When the news of the attempt to escape from the prison spread in the city, angry people entered the prison and took out George Parrott and hanged him on the telegraph pole. But after his death, when there was no claimant for the body, Dr. Thomas Magee and John Osborn took possession of the body to study his brain. They did not find George’s mind abnormal, but they removed the skin from his thighs and chest and sent him to a factory to make leather shoes and medicine bags. Osborne kept these shoes.

George’s body parts were placed in a whiskey barrel filled with salt water. And later he was buried in the yard of Dr. Magee’s office. Osborn continued experiments on the rest of George’s body. Dr. Osborn later became successful in politics, becoming Governor of Wyoming and then Deputy Secretary of the Interior to President Wilson. Osborne wore the same infamous shoes to his inaugural ball as governor. Osborne had given the skull cap to his 15 year old assistant Lillian Heath.

Big Nose George was once almost forgotten. But in 1950, construction workers found a whiskey barrel while digging. Bones were found in it and a skull was also found, the upper part of which was missing. Apart from this, a pair of shoes were also found. To confirm this, Dr. Lillian Heath was called, who was alive at that time and was in her 80s. His skull cap and skull matched the skull in the barrel, and decades later this was confirmed by DNA testing.
