Why are motor vehicles banned on the island?
According to petoskeynews.com, island leaders banned motor vehicles on July 6, 1898 because people complained that the new motor vehicles frightened their horses. Motor vehicles were banned in view of incidents occurring due to horse-drawn carriages.
