What mineral was found from the mine?
In the year 1787, when a chemist Carl Axel Arrhenius discovered an ore in a mine located in the village of Ytterby, he named it Ytterbite, whose sample was later examined and researched by many chemists. In 1789, Johann Gadolin, a chemist at Obero University, first discovered the rare element yttrium in the ore ytterbite. Over the next hundred years, nine more rare elements were isolated from this ore. Later the name of this ore was changed from Ytterbite to Gadolinite.
