The accused, who arrived at the hearing of his bail plea in the court of ACJM Achal Pratap Singh in Agra Civil Court on Monday, said, “Sir, I do not want bail. I want to stay in jail. If I get bail, Hathras police will do an encounter. Hathras police is holding my family members hostage.”
Vinay Verma alias Billu Verma, who was lodged in Agra jail on Monday, was summoned to the court today. His brother had submitted a bail application in the court. Vinay Verma was terribly frightened on seeing his brother with Hathras police in the civil lockup. He started screaming. He pleaded with the lawyers. After this, he was produced in the ACJM court.
He gave a statement in the court that Hathras police has kept my brother and mother in illegal custody for 7-8 days. They have beaten me and even broken my brother’s hand. My bail application has been submitted in your court as well. But, I do not want to get bail. Because the police can encounter me after I come out of jail.
The judge rejected the bail plea of the accused after the statement. The accused’s lawyers also opposed his bail. Vinay Verma has a case of extortion pending against him in Hariparvat police station in the year 2019. Arrest warrants were issued against Vinay in this case since 2023.
The accused’s lawyers had made Vinay Verma surrender in the CJM court on a warrant on 6 June 24. Advocate Ramashankar Sharma said that Hathras police wanted to get Vinay Verma bail and take him into their custody. But, due to the advocacy of the lawyers, the accused could not get bail.
