According to the Guinness World Record, the bar-tailed godwit neither ate nor drank anything for 11 days, nor did it stop anywhere to rest. Rather kept flying. He is identified through his tag number “234684”. And when it was tracked, it was found that it not only covered a distance of more than 13,000 kilometers in 11 days of continuous flight, but also set a world record with it. Completed the journey from Alaska to the Australian state of Tasmania. By doing so, the Bar-tailed Godwit ie Limosa laponica surpassed the previous record of 217 miles, which was made by another bird of the same species in 2020.
Bird flight tracked via satellite
According to the record-keeping organisation, ‘the distance covered was equivalent to two and a half times the journey between London and New York, or about one-third of the entire circumference of the planet. According to the 5G satellite tag attached to its lower back, the journey began on October 13, 2022. And it was completed for 11 days and one hour without a bird landing even once. This record of the bird was known by tracking the tag number through satellite. During this the bird did not take any break but kept flying continuously.
