Burqa is worn by Muslim women and Switzerland’s burqa ban law is being seen as targeting Muslims.
In Switzerland, there is a ban on covering the entire face with burqa or niqab in public places. For violating the law, a fine of 1,000 Swiss francs (Rs 94,651.06) will have to be paid.
The Burqa Ban law, which came into effect from January 1, bans covering the nose, mouth and eyes in public places and private buildings accessible to the general public. However, there are some exceptions to this law.
The burqa ban law will not apply on flights or diplomatic and consular premises and the face can also be covered at places of worship and other holy places.
The burqa ban law in Switzerland also states that covering the face will be allowed for health and safety reasons, local customs and to protect against heat and cold.
There will be no ban on covering the face even for entertainment and advertisements in Switzerland.
Switzerland’s burqa ban law states that if face covering is needed for freedom of expression and personal safety during a gathering, then it can be allowed.
The ban on burqa has been done on the basis of a referendum four years ago in 2021 in which the citizens of Switzerland voted against face covering.
