Burhanpur. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Burhanpur of Madhya Pradesh became the number one district in the country to provide tap water to every household. Burhanpur district was honored by President Draupadi Murmu for being the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified district in the country. And in the program organized at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhavan, Malay Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary of PHE Department of the district and the then Collector Praveen Singh were honored, but the work of tap water mission in the rural areas of the district has not been completed.

In fact, in the rural areas of Burhanpur district, every house tap scheme is being exposed. Providing water to every house is an ambitious plan of the government. Due to the negligence and neglect of the officers, this plan seems to be getting sabotaged. This scheme is approved in 254 villages in Burhanpur district at a cost of Rs 129 crore. On paper it has been said to be 100% applicable, but the reality on the ground is something else. There are 15 to 20 villages in the tribal-dominated areas situated 40 kilometers away from the district headquarters, where the reality of the tap water scheme came to the fore. Prime Minister’s dream project Ghar-Ghar Nal-Jal Yojana is proving to be a complete failure in these villages.

The tap-water scheme started at a cost of crores of rupees has fallen victim to negligence due to lack of supervision. Due to this the villagers have to fight for every drop of water. According to government figures, the work of door-to-door tap water scheme has been completed here. And pipes have been laid for water till every house. So put a tap somewhere, water is not coming in it. Taps have not been installed in the drains and neither is water available. The resources of the scheme are scattered and getting damaged in 15 to 20 villages of Dhulkot area.

The villagers told that it has been more than 1 year but they are not getting the benefit of the tap water scheme. Complaints were made many times but the government administration did not listen.
