A source familiar with the plan gave this information on Wednesday (January 24). Apart from this, a document has also surfaced in this regard.

Zawya News claims that this document states that to buy liquor, customers will have to register through a mobile app and obtain a clearance code from the Ministry of External Affairs. However, customers will be able to purchase liquor in limited quantities.

Monthly quota will have to be followed
According to the document, customers will be able to purchase liquor only as per the monthly quota. The Saudi government has taken this step under a comprehensive plan called Vision 2030. It is noteworthy that the government has made a Vision 2030 plan to build the economy after the depletion of oil resources.

Store will be opened in Diplomatic Quarter
The document states that the new store will be opened in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, where the embassy and diplomats live nearby. At present it is not clear whether other non-Muslim migrants can come here or not. Let us tell you that millions of expatriates live in Saudi Arabia. Most of these are Muslim workers from Asia and Egypt. The source said the store is expected to open in the coming weeks.

Strict punishment for drinking alcohol
The decision to open a liquor store is being linked to the reform measures taken by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It is believed that with this decision Saudi Arabia wants to remove the label of a conservative Muslim country. There are strict laws against drinking alcohol in Saudi Arabia. A person who drinks alcohol is punished by flogging here. However, now it has been replaced with jail sentence.
