‘The government had expressed apprehension that…’, Abhishek Singhvi’s reaction on SC giving relief to CM Arvind Kejriwal, know what he said

Arvind Kejriwal Case: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal got interim bail on Friday (July 12, 2024) in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to the alleged liquor scam. After this relief from the Supreme Court, the reaction of senior lawyer and Congress leader Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi came.

In a post on social media platform X on Friday (July 12, 2024), the senior Congress leader said, “After the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI (which I termed as an ‘insurance arrest’ i.e. knowing our arguments and their weaknesses), the government feared an adverse order (as decided by the Supreme Court today) and hence the CBI arrested Arvind Kejriwal after a full year (after questioning him a year ago and then he was in ED custody).”

Relief in ED case, interrogation in CBI case continues

Actually, Delhi CM is accused of money laundering related to Delhi liquor scam. He has been granted interim bail in ED case, while a separate case of country’s biggest investigating agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going on against him. CBI is questioning him in a separate case. This means that Arvind Kejriwal will not be able to come out of jail even after getting relief in ED case.

What did the bench say about Arvind Kejriwal?

While granting interim bail to the Delhi CM, the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta said, “Arvind Kejriwal has served jail sentence for more than 90 days.” The court also informed that he has also raised questions regarding election funding. In such a situation, arrest cannot be allowed on the basis of interrogation alone.
