A similar tradition is followed in Gujar Sali Sakal Panch Samaj in Burhanpur district. This tradition is still alive today. Under this, the groom is beaten in his in-laws’ house on the second day of the marriage. Women are at the forefront in performing this ritual. Women make a knot in the saree and beat the groom. This ritual takes place in front of the people of the society.
When Local 18 team spoke to the groom Gokul Marche, he said that this is about 500 years old tradition of our society. On the second day of marriage, the groom is beaten in the in-laws’ house. Today, the tradition of beating me at my in-laws’ house was carried out. People from all the communities also gathered and this ritual was performed in front of them. The elders of the society say that this is done because they make a long knot in the saree that the bride wears in turmeric and they beat the groom so that on the same day all the disputes are resolved and everyone falls in love with each other. Keep doing it.
Making a knot in the bride’s saree
Giving information, Sonali Bhopal of the society said that when the bride applies turmeric, a knot is made in the saree she wears. Due to this, the groom’s in-laws beat him. During this, women hit the groom on the back. All the women hit the groom five times each.
