A couple has set an example of how candor in a husband-wife relationship strengthens the relationship. A man revealed how he became “obsessed” with another woman. But he accepted the situation and took his wife into confidence and informed her about his condition. After this, both of them decided to deal with the situation together and now their marriage is stronger than ever.
Ruth Pearl, 58, and her partner David, 64, have dedicated 13 years to overcoming this difficult situation. Despite his passion, he never even made any advances towards the woman. But then after a heart-to-heart talk with Ruth, he told her. He researched “limerence,” a state of mind characterized by persistent, intense crush-like thoughts about someone.
David claimed that his feelings were like a bad headache. He was unable to help himself and was not ready to start a relationship with that woman. After opening up to Ruth, the couple worked on repairing their relationship.

David is a doctor living in St Albans, Herts. Realizing that these feelings aren’t going away any time soon, he decides to confide in Ruth, who is also a couples therapist. All this was not easy for Ruth also.
Ruth finally sat down with David and discussed her feelings. He advised David to accept the confusion, promising to support him as much as possible. David also worked with Ruth to explore various therapeutic methods to heal from limerence, including breaking contact with the other person or ending the relationship.
Now, David and Ruth help other couples facing similar issues and have taught their daughters, Hannah-Mae, 32, and Isobel, 29, to value their relationships. Ruth insisted that it was important that both of her daughters knew about all this.
