Mumps Virus: A disease has created a stir in Rajasthan due to which people are becoming victims of deafness. This is a very dangerous virus, whose name is said to be Mumps. According to reports, so far 6 people who have been affected by this virus have lost their hearing ability. These also include two children. Earlier there used to be 5-7 cases of this virus, which has now increased to more than 50 every month. Health experts have issued special guidelines regarding this.

How dangerous is mumps virus?

Mumps is a viral infection, which is badly affecting the salivary glands. Due to this virus the glands on both sides of the face swell. It is also called mumps. Usually this disease affects children but now adults have also started falling prey to it. Apart from sneezing, mumps virus is spreading rapidly due to contact with infectious droplets coming from the nose and throat. According to health experts, symptoms of mumps appear at least within 1-2 weeks after getting infected. Its symptoms are exactly like flu.

What are the symptoms of mumps virus?

swelling of the cheeks or jaw and throat

pain in the face, jaw and ears

mild fever, weakness and fatigue

loss of appetite

dry mouth

joints and headaches

severe muscle pain

What to do to avoid mumps virus

1. To avoid mumps disease, do not forget to get MMR vaccine for children.

2. If anyone in the house is suffering from mumps, keep them isolated for at least 7 days.

3. Take proper and adequate rest for quick recovery.

4. Eat as many soft things as possible, take more liquid.

5. Do not eat chewable things.

6. Use ice packs to reduce swelling.

7. If symptoms of mumps appear, immediately go to the doctor and get treatment.
