The plane was flying in the air, passengers were eating food, suddenly something happened that an emergency landing had to be made

Emergency landing of an aircraft can happen due to many reasons. But can it be because of some problem in the food served in the aircraft? You might not believe it. But this happened with Scandinavian Airlines. Recently, one of its flights had to make an emergency landing after a rat was found in a passenger’s food. Yes, and all this had to be done for security reasons.

According to Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the plane was flying from Oslo, the capital of Norway, to Malaga, Spain. It had to make an emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark. Airline spokesman Oystein Schmidt told AFP news agency that this diversion was in line with the company’s procedures.

This was because the furry stowaway was posing a safety risk. Passengers on the flight were later taken to Malaga on a different plane. Airlines usually have strict restrictions on rats on board the plane to prevent them from chewing electrical wires.

Mr Schmidt said: “While this is a very rare occurrence, we have procedures in place for such situations, including a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.” Jarle Borstedt, who witnessed the incident firsthand, told BBC News in a recorded video that the rat escaped from a lunchbox that a woman seated next to him was opening on the flight.

Mr Borrestad said the situation was very calm and people were “not stressed at all”. However, he admitted he had worn socks over his trousers to prevent the rodent from climbing onto his feet. He said although the flight was diverted, it only added a few extra hours to the journey. It is the second rodent-related travel incident in a week. A train service in southern England had to be halted mid-journey after two squirrels climbed into a carriage.
