Residents of an area in the city of Diriamba say they are troubled by this long-standing legend in Latin American countries. Coast to Coast According to the report, Mona Bruja is a witch who transforms into a red-eyed monkey, has a loud scream and loves to run on rooftops.
And now, people living in the Roberto Clemente neighbourhood suspect that this “folkloric figure” has made their area her home. One resident, who did not want to be named, said he heard ‘Mona Bruja’ tapping on the wall of his home and then suddenly running from room to room. “It’s paranormal,” he said.

He further said that residents had attempted to catch the monkey, but Mona Bruja was aware of the plot to capture her. He said that she refuses to appear “when someone is waiting for her”. But similar cases had been reported earlier.
Another ‘monkey witch’ was reported in Nicaragua in 2021, when people in the town of Granada were convinced that the monkey was in their area as large stones were being thrown on the roofs of their houses. Witnesses claimed they had encountered Mona Bruja and hysteria ensued. The community formed a group to hunt down the suspected witch. But when he was finally caught, it turned out he was just a young man playing a prank. It is expected that this time too, a similar case may be in place.
