The shortage of teachers in India is more than 08 lakh. There are 30-50 percent vacancies for teaching jobs in many states. The number of teachers is more in urban areas, whereas in rural areas there is a shortage of teachers and many posts are lying vacant. According to the data released by the Union Education Ministry last year, a total of more than 08 lakh posts of teachers are vacant in government schools of various states, both at primary and secondary levels.

One teacher is running 2600 schools in Himachal 

The number of posts of teachers in primary schools is more vacant. According to the report, according to the ministry’s data, 7.2 lakh posts of teachers are vacant in primary schools and 1.2 lakh in secondary schools. In states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, more than half of the posts of teachers are vacant at both primary and secondary levels. On the other hand, if we talk about Himachal Pradesh, there is not even a single school teacher in 125 schools. There are 2600 such schools in Himachal where only one teacher is running the school.

A large number of posts of primary teachers are vacant in these states. There are 1,92,097 vacant primary teacher posts in Bihar, 1,43,564 in Uttar Pradesh, 75,726 in Jharkhand, 53,137 in West Bengal and 52,394 in Madhya Pradesh. There is a huge shortage of teachers in the field of primary education in these states.

Vacant posts of secondary teachers in these states

The posts of secondary teachers are also vacant in these states. There are 32,929 vacant posts of secondary teachers in Bihar, 21,717 in Jharkhand, 15,145 in Madhya Pradesh, 7,492 in Uttar Pradesh and 7,378 in West Bengal. In these states too, shortage of teachers is being felt in the field of secondary education.

Shortage of teachers most in rural areas 

According to the Union Education Ministry, more than 8.4 lakh teacher posts are vacant in government schools in the country in the year 2024, out of which most of the posts are in primary schools. In Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, more than half of the posts of teachers are vacant at both primary and secondary levels. More than 1 lakh 43 thousand teacher posts are vacant in primary schools of Uttar Pradesh. In the last five years, the number of teachers in government schools has decreased by 82,760. There are 30-50 percent vacancies for teaching jobs in many states, and the shortage of teachers is especially high in rural areas.
