You may have often heard about a haunted bungalow or palace, but have you heard about a haunted park? That too a children’s park? But there is one such park in the world. Perhaps more ghost hunters come here than children. It is known as the ‘playground of dead children’ due to the horrific history and scary incidents of its place.
This amusement area is in Huntsville, Alabama, USA. With its modern swings and climbing equipment, it looks like a typical place for young children to expend their energy. But this park is not like many other parks, passersby often see the swings moving on their own, as well as ghostly figures.

That’s because it’s built right next to Maple Hill Cemetery, the peaceful resting place of victims of the Spanish Flu pandemic. The playground is surrounded on three sides by limestone, which has created many caves in the area, giving it a shadowy appearance that lends it spooky legends. The proximity to the historic cemetery doesn’t hurt either.
Local teenagers gave it this sinister name, which has been passed down for generations, and yet it remains a place used by families. Legend has it that a large number of children who died in Huntsville as a result of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 are buried in the Maple Hill Plot, located next to the playground.
Some people believe that after dark, the spirits of children come out to run and play just as they did in their lives. The peak time for this supernatural fun is believed to be between 10 pm and 3 am. Many claim that during this time the swings swing on their own, ghostly lights float around, and you can see the spirits of children having fun.
