There was not just one rock that caused the end of all dinosaurs, scientists made a shocking revelation

Till now, there has been debate in the research about the end of dinosaurs whether they were extinct due to the asteroid that fell near Mexico or not. Some researchers said that they could not tolerate climate change. So some said that the tsunami caused by the asteroid collision took away everyone. But a new discovery has added a new angle to this story. This new research shows that the giant asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago was not an isolated event. Scientists have discovered a new crater that was left when the asteroid fell near Mexico.

The study published in Nature took a detailed scan of an underwater crater off the coast of Guinea. It revealed that another large asteroid had hit Earth around the same time, contributing to the cataclysmic conditions that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Scientists recently mapped the 8 km wide Nadir Crater and revealed that it was created by a 400 meter wide asteroid.

This asteroid hit the planet between 65 million and 67 million years ago at a speed of about 72,000 km per hour. Although it was smaller than the asteroid associated with the mass extinction, they discovered Nadir Crater in 2022.

After this discovery, it is now expected that there will be a change in the story of the destruction of dinosaurs. (Symbolic photo: Pixabay)

The results show that the event caused a massive tsunami, estimated to be more than 800 meters high, which would have spread across the Atlantic Ocean. The exact time of this asteroid’s impact is not yet known, but its discovery raises interesting possibilities about a group of impacts that occurred at the end of the Cretaceous period.

In such a situation, the story could be something like this that 66 million years ago, at least two asteroid-like rocks collided with the Earth, which, along with the tsunami, created such conditions which led to a series of climate change events. Three-fourths of the Earth’s creatures, including dinosaurs, could not bear this change and became extinct. Further studies will change or improve this story.
