A recent study says that four types of ultra-processed foods can increase the risk of diabetes type 2. This study says that the consumption of such foods can increase the risk of diabetes (Ultra Processed Foods and diabetes) by up to 17 times.

This study published in The Lancet Regional Health Europe mentions these ultra-processed foods that increase the risk of diabetes. These ultra-processed foods include packaged snacks, cookies, candy and chips. Ready-to-eat food is at number two, which includes frozen dinners, microwaveable food and canned food. Processed meat is at number three, which includes hot dogs, sausages, bacon and deli meat. Soda and drinks with artificial sweeteners are at number four.

People who consume ultra-processed foods have a higher risk of diabetes
The study says that if you include more than 10% of these ultra-processed foods in your total diet, then the risk of diabetes type 2 can increase by 17% compared to other people. Rachel Batterham, Professor of Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University College of London, said that foods in which industrial packing, processing, artificial colors and sweeteners, flavors or preservatives are added.

These are called ultra-processed foods. Such foods can be dangerous for the body. Experts say that if a person replaces ten percent of ultra-processed food in his diet such as oil, butter and salt with healthy diet such as milk, eggs and fruits, then the risk of diabetes can be reduced by 14 percent. Similarly, by replacing beer, cheese, fish etc. with vegetables and fruits, the risk of diabetes can be reduced by 18 percent.
