Many families of Satna have been living in slums for the last 25 years in Chhatrasal Colony of Chhatarpur district. They do not have money to buy a permanent place or land. They are demanding from the government to allot land at any place.

Chhatarpur: For the last 25 years, many families of Satna have been living temporarily in slums in Chhatrasal Colony of Chhatarpur district. But the government has not yet made any permanent arrangement for them to live. The people of the colony say that the government should allot land for them so that the children can enter school.
The people of the colony say that the government should allot us land in any corner of the district, whether there is forest or mountains there. With the allotment of land, we can do our business on a permanent basis and also create a future for our children.
Children are not able to get admission
Suraj from Local 18 tells that we have been living here as a slum since the time there was a forest here. After coming from Nagaud in Satna, we had built a slum here 20 years ago. At that time the municipality used to dump the garbage of the entire city here. Our only request to the government is that we should be given land to live, so that our children can have a future. Right now admission in the school is not possible because the documents have not been prepared.
Kusama tells that we have been living here ever since Indira Gandhi died. We came here from Chitrakoot, our business does not run there. That’s why we can’t even leave from here now.
ready to live in forest or mountain
Manisha says that we request the government to allot us land in any corner of the district, whether it is a forest or a mountain, but it should be available in the district itself. Because our business runs in Chhatarpur only. Here they feed their children by selling brooms and leaves. If the government provides a permanent place to live, our children will have a future.
If we get land we will change our business.
Santola tells that even my husband is not there. On days when business does not work, even children go to sleep hungry. If we get permanent residence then we can do some other business. Children will also start studying in school.
