During the Kanwar Yatra in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, the police have instructed all hotels, shopkeepers and street vendors to write the owner’s name publicly. Political uproar has intensified over this. Now Javed Akhtar has given his reaction on this. He has compared this decision of UP Police to the Nazis.

Javed Akhtar wrote on the social media platform X, Muzaffarnagar UP Police has instructed that in the coming days, all shops, restaurants and even vehicles on the route of a particular religious procession should have the owner’s name written prominently and clearly. Why is this so? He further wrote, in Nazi Germany, only special shops and houses were marked.

What is the order of Muzaffarnagar Police?

Actually Muzaffarnagar Police has issued an order regarding Kanwar Yatra. Police has asked all the hotels, shops and vendors on the route of Kanwar Yatra to write their names in front of their shops. Police has defended this decision and said that this is being done so that there is no confusion among the Kanwariyas and no allegations are made in future which may affect the law and order.

Akhilesh Yadav said- court should take cognizance

Akhilesh Yadav has also questioned this decision of UP Police. He wrote on social media platform X, ‘… and what will be known from the name of the person whose name is Guddu, Munna, Chhotu or Fateh? The honourable court should take suo motu cognizance and investigate the intention of the government behind such administration and take appropriate punitive action. Such orders are social crimes, which want to spoil the peaceful environment of harmony.’
