Who got the first Bharat Ratna?

The first Bharat Ratna was given to the country’s first Governor General Chakraborty Rajagopalachari, former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and great scientist Dr. Chandrashekhar Venkataraman.

How are names selected?

Let us tell you that the names for Bharat Ratna award are recommended by the Prime Minister of the country. After this these names are sent to the President. It is decided by the President which person is to be given Bharat Ratna for his contribution. After this, this honor is given to that person by the President. In this, a Sanad (certificate) and a medal is received. The award does not carry any monetary grant.

Bharat Ratna Medal Design

Bharat Ratna medal looks like a Peepal leaf. It is made of pure copper and its length is 5.8 cm, width is 4.7 cm and thickness is 3.1 mm. There is a shining sun made of platinum on this leaf, its edge is also made of platinum. On the other side of the Ratna i.e. at the bottom, Bharat Ratna is written in Hindi in silver. Apart from this, ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is written in Hindi below the Ashoka Pillar on the back side. According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Bharat Ratna is prepared by the Kolkata Mint.
