In the 2009 general elections, the party’s vote share in Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, which is considered the stronghold of BJP, had reduced by 21.19 percent. However, the seat remained with BJP. In this election, the opposition’s vote share increased by 27.93 percent, but the Congress candidate had to face defeat due to less votes. For the first time in the last three decades, when the vote share of the party was decreasing, when the BJP organization fielded its strong leader Rajnath Singh in 2014, all the previous records were broken and the vote share increased to 19.34 percent.
In fact, in the 2009 elections, senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon was fielded from the seat of late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In this, he got 2,04,028 votes, which was 21.19 percent less than the party’s vote share in 2004. However, BJP won due to getting more votes than the opposition candidate. In this election, BJP greatly missed former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Congress got full benefit of this. At the same time, compared to the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Congress’s vote increased by 27.93 percent. However, Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi lost in this election despite getting 1,63,127 votes. The organization was forced to think after the vote share fell to 21.19 percent in BJP’s traditional seat.

Rajnath broke records
In 2014, when BJP fielded Rajnath Singh, all voting records were broken. BJP’s vote share increased to 19.34 percent. Rajnath Singh secured more than 5.61 lakh votes in this election. Congress’s Rita Bahuguna Joshi got only 2.88 lakh votes. In this election, Rajnath Singh won from Lucknow by more than 2.77 lakh votes. Similarly, in the 2019 elections, Rajnath Singh hoisted the BJP flag by more than 3.47 lakh votes.
That’s why Lucknow is important
BJP has been winning the last eight elections from Lucknow. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was MP from here five times since 1991. After this, Lalji Tandon in 2009 and Rajnath Singh have been MPs for two consecutive terms in 2014 and 2019. For the third time again BJP has expressed confidence in Rajnath Singh. In the last eight elections, if we exclude the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP candidate has been winning every time by a huge margin. Vote share also remained rich.
