Railway Knowledge: It is common for Indian Railways to run late. During cold days, this delay sometimes extends to 12 to 24 hours. The distance which should be covered in 2-3 hours is covered by trains in 6-7 hours in winter. Sometimes it takes even more time than that. But do you know which is the most late train in India? (Most delayed train) This train was supposed to complete its journey in 42 hours, but it took more than 3 years to reach its destination!

This incident is from the year 2014. A goods train was to travel from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Basti in Uttar Pradesh (Goods wagon delay 3 years). But this train was delayed by about 4 years. By the way, this route is completed in 42 hours. This is the biggest delay in the history of Indian Railways. According to reports, it took 3 years, 8 months and 7 days for this goods train to reach Basti.

Train got delayed by more than 3 years
It so happened that there was a businessman in the colony, Ramchandra Gupta. In 2014, he had ordered di-ammonium phosphate from Indian Potash Limited, Visakhapatnam for his business. This item was worth around Rs 14 lakh. 1316 sacks of goods were loaded onto the goods train on 10 November 2014. The train left the station on time. But then it got so late that it reached Basti in Uttar Pradesh after 3 years and 8 months, i.e. on 25 July 2018.

The train disappeared from the way
Railway employees and other staff were also stunned to know this. The train was to complete the journey in 42 hours. When the train did not reach Basti in November 2014, Ramchandra Gupta contacted the Railways and lodged several written complaints. But the administration did not take any action. But later it was revealed that the train disappeared on the way and lost its way. According to the report of India TV website, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway Zone, Sanjay Yadav had said that when a coach or bogie is considered unfit for travel, it is sent to the yard. It seems that perhaps the same might have happened with this train, it might have been standing in some yard for a long time. Only after investigation was done did the train reach Basti station. However, nothing was known about where the train got delayed and where it was for so long. After such a long wait, that fertilizer was wasted in 3 years.
