According to the report of Atlas Obscura website, there was a village named Vilarinho da Furna in northern Portugal which was said to be 2000 years old. This village was completely destroyed in 1972. It so happened that the Homam river used to flow near this village, on which the work of building a dam started in 1967. A huge hydro electricity project was to be started in the area through this dam, which would supply electricity to the area.

300 people lived in the last time
When the people of the area protested against this, the Portuguese Electricity Company gave some money to the people to leave their houses. These rupees were so little that even their needs could not be met. In fact, when water was released from the dam, the water level of the river would rise, due to which the village would be completely submerged. Just by showing this fear, 300 people living in the village were driven away from there. When the water level really rose, they fled the village overnight, took whatever they could get their hands on and went away from there. In 1972, the last resident of this village vacated the village and now this village is completely submerged in water.
This place has become a tourist spot
People believe that this village was settled by the Romans in 1 BC. Today, when the water of the dam goes down, the doors, stones etc. of this village become visible. A museum on this lost city was built nearby. Now tourists are also taken here for a tour. People are taken to this place in a transparent boat.
