Over the past year, we have had several conversations with the underwriters of the original cargo. About 7 weeks ago we had made an agreement with them to cover the insured portion of the cargo.
Benson further said, ‘We still have one claimant, about whom we are not sure how valid his claim is, but we are in talks with him as well. If successful, the claimants would receive one percent of their legitimate claim and the remainder would go to the treasure hunters. The process of taking out the treasure is expected to begin at the end of this year.
Where did the SS Pacific ship sink?
The SS Pacific sank in 1875 after colliding with the clipper SV Orpheus southwest of Cape Flattery, near Washington. When the ship sank, there were estimated to be more than 300 people on board. The ship was captained by Jefferson Davis Howell, who had commanded a rebel gunboat during the American Civil War. It was the deadliest maritime disaster in Western American history.
