There is a grocery shopkeeper named Santosh Chauhan in Sonpuri village of Korba district. Santosh still sells 5 paise, 10 paise and 50 paise coins in his shop. At the shop, when you see Santosh taking old coins from customers and giving goods to people in exchange, it feels like we have returned to old times.
Those who heard about this unique initiative of Santosh Chauhan are surprised. People are surprised by the fact that this shopkeeper is giving goods to the people by taking the old coins which have been banned by the government also. Santosh says that he has been taking these coins from customers in his shop for the last two years. Whether the customer is big or small, if he has a 5 paise or 10 paise coin, he takes it and also gives goods in return.
Many children also reach Santosh’s shop with old coins from their piggy banks and buy chocolates and toffees. Santosh has preserved all these coins with great love. For them these coins are not just money but a souvenir.
Santosh says that he likes to keep the memories of old times fresh. When he was young, these coins had great importance. He says that today’s children do not even know about these coins, so he wants to tell children about these coins and make them understand their value.
